CASA Advocate Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:  This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The CASA Advocate Coordinator provides professional staff support to CASA advocates ensuring that children involved with the CASA program receive sound advocacy.  The Advocate Coordinator is responsible to recruit, screen, train, and supervise advocates.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

ADVOCATE RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING

  • Coordinate advocate recruitment and screening.

  • Schedule and coordinate training and in-service classes, acting as moderator and/or presenter in coordination with the CASA Director.

  • Aide in the implementation of advocate in-service training.

  • Schedule and facilitate advocate pre-service training.

CASE MANAGEMENT

  • Assist in advocate assignments.

  • Assist in or perform casework as needed, serving as a special advocate working directly with at risk children and low-income families.

  • Maintain accurate advocate work and performance records.

  • Keep advocate and case files and database up to date and complete.

  • Keep current schedule of upcoming court dates and case plan meetings.

  • Attend all court hearings with the advocates assigned.

  • Attend case plans and other meetings as necessary.

  • Maintain appropriate communication with DCF and its contractors, and other agencies involved in cases.

  • Report to the Director on advocate performance.

VOLUNTEER SUPERVISION

  • Make monthly contact with assigned advocates; document all contacts with advocates.

  • Assist advocates in preparation, editing, and distribution of reports to the court.

  • Provide assistance and consultation as needed and when requested by the advocate.

  • Oversee the completion of the advocate monthly report forms, ensuring that the CASA office receives a monthly written report from each advocate.

  • Consult with DCF and contracting agencies regarding child/family needs and advocate assignments.

  • Report to the Director on advocate performance.

  • Schedule and attend advocate support meetings.

  • Prepare monthly CASA advocate newsletter and quarterly supporter newsletter.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Attend at least twelve hours of continuing education each year including conferences, workshops, etc. in order to maintain knowledge of current theory, literature, legislation and resources.

  • Assist in the planning of advocate recognition events.

  • Complete appropriate documentation as required.

  • Other duties as assigned by the SOS Executive Director, including complying with grant goals and objectives.  These duties may include providing training and education regarding child welfare issues, including human trafficking, within the community and/or in schools.  These duties may also include informing crime victims of their statutory rights under K.S.A. 74-7301; 74-7333; 74-7335 and assisting crime victims in seeking available compensation.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid Kansas Driver’s License and auto insurance.

  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age.

  • CERTIFICATION:  Must participate in CASA advocate training, be certified with the Kansas Office of Judicial Administration to act as a special advocate and maintain such certification.

  • EXPERIENCE: Experience in social service agency, volunteer organization, or court-related environment with experience recruiting, training, and supervision of volunteers preferred.

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and/or proven experience required.

  • KNOWLEDGE:  Knowledge of issues related to family dynamics and child abuse.  An understanding of the legal system. Must have the ability to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions. Required to read, write, and speak English fluently. The ability to speak Spanish is beneficial but not required.

  • SKILLS:  Able to work effectively with low income and high-risk children and families.  Able to work well with other disciplines within the system. Able to work independently as well as part of a multi-facet professional team. Able to organize, plan, and implement activities appropriate to program goals. Product accurate documentation, organize and facilitate meetings. ​

Outreach Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:  The Victim Advocate/Outreach Coordinator assists survivors of sexual and domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking with necessary and appropriate services including protection orders, emotional support, education, and referrals to community resources.  This position has a special focus of being the sole advocate in the assigned rural county or counties.  Extra responsibilities include participating in community meetings, collaborating with inter-agency/multi-disciplinary groups, organizing and/or facilitating training for county partners.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

GENERAL ADVOCACY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to day-time crisis calls and walk-ins in a trauma-informed manner.

  • Provide short-term one-on-one support to survivors of sexual and domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking.  Support may include, but is not limited to, emotional support counseling, teaching of life skills, education regarding sexual and domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking and/or assisting with employment and housing opportunities.

  • Provide on-going emotional and physical safety planning.

  • Make appropriate referrals to community agencies and assist with resources acquisition.

  • Offer continued or follow-up services as necessary and/or requested.

  • Provide transportation for survivors or assist survivors in making transportation arrangements as needed.

  • Conduct strength-based needs assessments with sheltered and non-sheltered survivors and assist in creating individualized goals.

  • Assist survivors with protection orders as appropriate and accompany survivors to court.

  • Accompany survivors to and support survivors during medical, law enforcement, and/or attorney appointments as needed and/or as requested.

  • Offer survivors tangible options to barriers and support personal empowerment of decisions.

  • Respond to requests from the community partners such as law enforcement, hospital, community mental health, etc., as appropriate.

  • Provide on-call relief with other staff on a rotating basis.

  • Provide community presentations and increase community awareness by making brochures, posters, and other items available to community partners and the public as appropriate.

POSITION-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES

  • Participate in the inter-agency or multi-disciplinary groups to network and educate about sexual and domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking.  Establish and maintain a productive and collaborative relationship with these teams/groups.

  • Provide community presentations to both adults and youth through civic groups and schools.  Provide professional training to local systems (i.e., law enforcement, social service agencies, schools, etc.) Provide community awareness in public places or events throughout the county/community by displaying brochures, posters, and contact information for victims needing assistance. 

  • If bi-lingual, be on-call for native language speaking clients, either by phone or in person.

  • If bi-lingual, provide interpreting and translating for clients when related to sexual and domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking.  Translate documents from English to native language or from native language to English when needed.

  • If bi-lingual, network with community agencies and systems, especially in the native language-speaking community.

ADMINISTRATIVE/CONTINUING EDUCATION

  • Document survivor calls and services and other imperative information using internal database and shelter files per agency policy and procedures.

  • Attend All Staff meetings.

  • Participate in weekly case staffings, monthly staff meetings, and supervision as arranged.

  • Attend professional training and continuing education opportunities when possible and at the request of your supervisor.  Apply to attend KAVA training – Kansas Academy for Victim Assistance within 20 days of your employment start date.

  • EXPERIENCE: One year of advocacy or educational experience preferred, or similar work experience. Education may be substituted for experience.

  • KNOWLEDGE:  Knowledge of sexual and domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking, and issues pertaining to the empowerment of victims and survivors. Demonstrate a client-focused environment/approach that encourages empowerment of all clients.  Must have the ability to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions. Shelter Support Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY: The Shelter Support Coordinator provides safe shelter and basic needs such as food and clothing to survivors of sexual and domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking living within the SOS Shelter. Assists in overseeing all maintenance and cleaning for the shelter, shelter grounds and vehicles. Provides support advocacy to shelter residents, ensuring that they are comfortable in their surroundings, feel safe, have a good understanding of SOS services and shelter rules.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

GENERAL ADVOCACY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide short-term one-on-one support to survivors of sexual and domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking.  Survivors will be in shelter.  Support may include, but is not limited to, emotional support counseling, teaching of life skills, education regarding sexual and domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking and/or assisting with employment and housing opportunities.

  • Provide on-going emotional and physical safety planning.

  • Make appropriate resident and helpline call referrals to community agencies.

  • Refer clients leaving shelter to outreach advocates for continued or follow-up services as necessary and/or requested.

  • Provide transportation for survivors or assist survivors in making transportation arrangements as needed.

  • Conduct Strength Need Assessments with sheltered survivors and assist in creating individualized goals.

  • Provide regular contact with sheltered survivors to expedite appropriate services.

  • Assist in referring survivors with protection orders as appropriate.

  • Offer survivors tangible options to barriers and support personal empowerment of decisions.

  • Provide on-call relief with other staff on a rotating basis.

SHELTER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help shelter residents to maintain a safe clean and healthy environment for themselves.

  • Help shelter manager by performing or overseeing (if job demands) overall maintenance, upkeep and appearance of the shelter, shelter grounds, and vehicles. This includes arranging for needed repairs, making sure that appliances, etc. are in good working condition. Adhere to procedures and policies when coordinating repairs. 

  • Pick up, organize, and account for donations as needed.

  • Provide support to shelter residents using an empowerment approach, maintaining professional boundaries, and encouraging open dialogue of resident needs and concerns to the assigned Advocate, Shelter Manager, or Crisis Service Director, as appropriate.

  • Maintain contact with residents on food needs.  Buy groceries as needed.

  • Provide shelter coverage, working the later shift.

  • Help maintain the storage and garage areas, disperse furniture, and other items to residents when moving to permanent housing.

ADMINISTRATIVE/CONTINUING EDUCATION

Therapist and Assistant Executive Director

JOB SUMMARY: This is a full-time, exempt position. The employee in this position provides services that are available to all individuals, participants and families served by SOS, Inc at no cost to them. Therapist duties may include adult, child and/or family therapy as well as support group facilitation. Assistant Executive Director duties will include providing training opportunities, cultural and diversity awareness, assisting the Executive Director in daily operations as assigned, acting as a liaison to contracted IT providers, chairing focus group and internal affairs committees, and providing supervision and staff support as assigned by or in the absence of the Executive Director. All duties are performed in a manner consistent with the agency’s mission and values.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

THERAPEUTIC SERVICES 

  • Oversee therapeutic services for agency, including supervision of therapists, interns, and other therapy support staff.

  • Provides clinical assessments and therapy for clients served by SOS Inc., on an individual, as needed, and short-term basis.

  • Provides therapeutic services for children as requested by parent or legal guardian.

  • Provides family counseling services including children and their non-offending caregivers when requested.

  • Provides therapy groups for clients.

  • Provides guidance to the SOS staff in the development of therapeutic group activities for support group meetings.

  • Facilitates support group activities for adult and children groups.

 

RECORD KEEPING

  • Completes necessary documentation for reporting required for grants or other funders.

  • Maintains minimal records necessary to facilitate good therapeutic process.

  • Maintain supervision records for all supervised staff members.

 

ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

  • Collaborates with the Executive Director, SOS staff and community allies in streamlining, designing new and innovative programming to assist participants in the SOS programs.

  • Collaborates with Executive Director and/or their designee to address agency training and professional development.

  • Collaborates with Executive Director and/or their designee to create professional development programing for community partners and allied professionals.

  • Acts as liaison between IT services provider and staff, assisting staff with basic technology needs.

  • Act as chair for the staff focus group to gather staff feedback and recommend improvements to ensure a healthy work environment for staff.

  • Act as staff liaison to the internal affairs committee.

  • Supervise Citizens Review Board (CRB) program, including any staff assigned to CRB duties.

  • Be a conduit for a healthy environment for staff.

 

OTHER

  • Other duties as assigned by the SOS Executive Director, including complying with grant goals and objectives including, but not limited to, informing crime victims of their statutory rights and assisting crime victims in seeking available compensation.

INTERMITTENT DUTIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess valid Kansas Driver’s License and auto insurance.

  • EXPERIENCE: Experience in providing therapeutic services to adults, children and families who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse preferred. Experience and training in trauma focused, evidence-based practices and treatment modalities. Leadership and supervision experience are preferred. The Therapist and Assistant Executive Director position is expected to perform in a satisfactory manner after twelve months on the job.

  • EDUCATION & LICENSE:  Master’s degree in social work, clinical counseling or marriage and family therapy or another recognized mental health therapy degree. Must be licensed by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board. Must maintain continuing education, licensing requirements, and professional liability insurance.

  • KNOWLEDGE:  Must have the ability to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions. Required to read, write, and speak English fluently with the ability to speak Spanish helpful.
